Unique Limited Edition Scale Models

The B&O “Iron Pot” coal hopper was one of the first “high capacity” bulk transport dump cars.  It evolved in various stages from a four-wheel model with a single “pot” in the 1840s to ultimately a 20-ton model by the 1880s and remained in use until the 20^th Century.  Far superior in capacity to the typical “coal jimmy” of the era and used by several railroads, the B&O built thousands of these cars over their long history.  SMR’s new model is of the 10-ton capacity model, used from the late 1850s through the 1870s.  These cars were usually pulled in long trains through the B&O’s winding and hilly route by the famous and powerful 0-8-0 “Winans Camel” locomotives.
