Its the evening of April 12, 1862. The "Great Locomotive Chase" is coming to an end. A bold team of Union soldiers, led by the spy, James Andrews have failed in their mission to disable the vital Western & Atlantic Railroad, the link between Atlanta and Chattanooga. The locomotive GENERAL, stolen by them that morning, has run out of fuel and they are now fleeing to the nearby woods. In the foreground is the locomotive TEXAS, which had chased the GENERAL for miles while running in reverse at speeds up to of 60 miles per hour. It is under the command off William Fuller, the original conductor of the GENERAL (seen on the tender urging the TEXAS to close the gap).
