VIRGINIA & TRUCKEE
Baldwin Mogul 2-6-0 Freight Engine
#19 Truckee and #20 Tahoe (1875)
#23 Santiago and #24 Merrimac (1876)
The famous “Bonanza Road” of the Wild
West, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad used these locomotives to haul the
rich silver ore of Nevada during the 1870s and 1880s. Ordered from Philadelphia’s
famed Baldwin Locomotive Works
and often operated double-headed, these engines pulled long trains of ore cars
from the mines.
The engines were ordered in identical pairs but each pair has specific features
which include a different tender,
driving wheels, cab, primary paint colors and other items.
