1862 Western & Atlantic

1862 32’ Western & Atlantic RR - Sound and Control Wood Boxcar
 These multi-purpose freight cars were found on every railroad. Built mostly from wood, even the trucks were constructed using a minimum of metal. Simple hand brakes were mounted on one side only and operated by a brakeman who had to jump from car to car on the moving train.  The couplers were the dangerous "pin-and-link;" a simple method of attaching cars which often cost the unwary trainman his fingers as he tried to attach cars.

Freedom of Choice
Built with great attention to detail, these cars have been especially modified to allow our customers to install their choice of popular 3-rail electronics packages.

•  SMR engines are designed for easy operation using Lionel® or MTH® train operating systems, or any of several brands of sound units.
•  Each truck has a preinstalled center-rail electrical pickup.
•  Pre-cut openings on the underside of the car are provided for speakers, wire leads and switches.
